A highly renowned and genre-unbound Slovene-German music label, Glitterbeat Records mainly focuses on music from the Global South. Most of its protégés thus come from Africa, though Glitterbeat's catalogue also features music from the Americas, Europe and Asia. It was given numerous awards and has been lauded as the best "world music" label in the world by Womex (the World Music Expo) for 5 years in a row, from 2014 to 2018.

The label was founded in 2013 by Chris Eckman, an American musician living in Ljubljana, where Glitterbeat has its headquarters.

Publishing programme

Many of the musicians whose work Glitterbeat has released come from North Africa (especially Mali), the most prominent of them being artists and bands such as Tamikrest, Bombino, Bassekou Kouyaté, Aziza Brahim and Noura Mint Seymali. However, Glitterbeat's range also spans the Turkish rock sensation Gaye Su Akyol, the Brasilian "afrobeat" orchestra Bixiga 70, the Bosnian sevdah singer Damir Imamović, the UK dub artist Dennis Bowell, and the American trumpet player and composer Jon Hassel.

In 2017, Glitterbeat set up a sub-label called tak:til. Among the label's first releases was one by the Slovene trio Širom (see the group's international tourings in the Events abroad database, locally, they often play at the residential venue space known as Pinelina dnevna soba).
